Our Two Cents

GRADE UPDATE: 9/26/2010 – Under new management and ownership. We’ll have a new review to come soon!

Situated in the sleepy neighborhood that also houses the Second Street Bakery, the Latin Lounge, Bob Bubbles, and Carmine’s Pizza, The Lamp Post is a solid choice for an afternoon of boozing or a good choice to prime up on your way out of town.

Outfitted in a good deal of woody kit, the interior resembles the bedroom where Ronnie and JWOWW lodged a few summers ago. A huge projection TV is plopped down near the front and it usually broadcasts the athletic event du jour for the sports hungry patrons, although I can’t help but think Dallas or Falcon Crest might look better on its yellowing screen

Drinks are priced moderately. Nothing to write home about, but they keep their taps within the range of reason, the beers are cold, and service is friendly.

Live music, DJs, and trivia (maybe OTB, too) round out what sets this place apart from the rest. Comedy used be on the menu here, but we’re not sure if they’re still cooking it up.

Lamp Post is a nice little spot that attracts a very diverse mix of people depending on the day and the hour. They offer NTN/Buzztime trivia and boast a very competitive group that often ranks high nationally. Live music a few times a month and different DJ’s most every night.
They have a nice menu offering something for everyone and one of the chef’s won the macaroni and cheese cook off sponsored by 4th Street Arts this year.
As for behind the bar you ask? Good selection of beers and all the drinks are pretty cheap.
Big minus though is the mood music as the owner insists on forcing people to either listen to a shitty XM station or pump quarters into the juke box which ain’t so hot YET.

It was OK. Nothing to write home about but I did enjoy the random sticker collection in the ladies restroom. Why the ladies restroom you may ask? Because that’s how I felt after watching everyone else screaming at the football game on television. I did feel comfortable and welcome and the beer was cold and refreshing. Next time I may consider the Latin Lounge which is right across the street for better beer deals.
